TAKE A PILL: THE PERFECT DOSE OF ART BY LUIS WEST

Luis West is an artist originally from Münster, now based in Berlin. At Dare Collective, we first encountered Luis West during an interior design project for the Haus Im Tal hotel in Munich, where we curated artwork and served as art suppliers. While sourcing talent for the project, we discovered Luis, an artist with a mesmerizing approach to color. Beyond his immense talent, Luis’s strong presence on social media allowed us to connect with him more easily. At Dare Collective, we value platforms like Instagram for enabling artists to showcase their work and foster a sense of community.

We were instantly captivated by the vibrancy of Luis’s work. His purpose is clear and inspiring: to bring color into the world through his art.

“For me, art is all about creating an experience. My work explores light, color, and their ability to transform a space. Plexiglass and lightboxes give me the freedom to ‘paint with light,’ crafting pieces that feel alive and ever-changing. It’s not just about creating something to look at; it’s about how it interacts with its environment and the emotions it evokes.”

Luis’s background in architecture sparked his fascination with translucent materials. This interest evolved into his concept of “modern stained glass,” casting dynamic and shifting light into spaces. His work explores how both natural and artificial light interact with plexiglass, creating a mesmerizing play of colors that change with the viewer’s perspective.

“My process is part curiosity, part experimentation. I’m constantly playing with materials, observing how light moves and interacts or how shadows shift. Inspiration comes from everywhere—architecture, nature, people. I don’t overthink it too much; I let the materials guide me. The best part is when something unexpected happens, and suddenly, it’s like, This is it. This is the piece.”

Among Luis’s most striking creations is his “PILL” series, featuring vivid gradients that transform any space. The acrylic glass reflects its surroundings, appearing uniquely from different angles. His lightboxes, another signature innovation, double as art pieces and light sources. They subtly change appearance depending on the dimming of the light, illustrating Luis’s mastery of transforming environments through design. His most recent “SLOPES” series continues this exploration, using five-millimeter acrylic to create dynamic plays of color that evolve with changing light angles.

“It’s surreal. Knowing that someone in Dubai, New York, or Seoul is living with one of my pieces—it’s an amazing feeling. I love imagining how the light and colors are shaping their space and becoming part of their daily lives. It’s like leaving a little piece of myself in homes and places around the world.”

This shared vision led Dare Collective to connect Luis with Haus Im Tal for an exhibition featuring his latest works. Haus Im Tal, a welcoming space in Munich’s city center, aims to be a “home away from home.” With its rooftop bar and terrace, the hotel combines a relaxed ambiance with the high standards of a grand hotel. The HiT Bar was the perfect venue for the exhibition, thanks to the hotel’s openness to integrating art into its spaces and community.

Together with Luis, Dare Collective presented “TAKE A PILL: The Perfect Dose of ART” at the HiT Bar. This event marked the hotel’s first collaboration with artists to create innovative cultural experiences. The Gallery Night opening included cocktails by Haus Im Tal, a DJ set by RIVIERA Records, Luis’s art, and event management by Dare Collective.

“The gallery night was incredible. Seeing people connect with my work in real-time? That’s what it’s all about. I love hearing their interpretations or just watching how the light and colors draw them in. Having a space like this to share my work and spark conversations feels like a celebration of everything I’ve poured into it. Big shoutout to the HiT-Team at this point.”

Luis’s favorite piece from the event?

“Hard to tell, but my favorite color is in the oranges. So probably the Orange Pill.”

At Dare Collective, building a sense of community has always been our core mission. We believe that being part of an artistic network feels like a warm embrace—a sense of belonging.

“Community is everything. Being part of a creative network keeps things fresh and exciting. At its core, art is about connection—not just with the piece itself but with the people you share it with.”

For those who want to explore Luis’s work further, Dare Collective is featuring a curated collection from the Haus Im Tal x Luis West collaboration, available in our shop. His lightboxes are a true wonder—pieces that instantly capture attention and transform spaces from simple to extraordinary.

“I’m venturing into design objects next—think lamps, candleholders, and other functional pieces that still carry my style. I want my art to blend seamlessly into everyday life, offering people moments of beauty in unexpected ways. On top of that, I’m planning bigger installations—immersive spaces where people can step into the art and feel like they’re part of it.”

Luis West continues to expand the boundaries of his art, and we’re excited to see what the future holds. Supporting artists and creating platforms to share their work drives everything we do at Dare Collective. Through exhibitions, events, and our shop, we’re honored to shine a spotlight on incredible talents like Luis and connect them with communities worldwide.
