A TRIBUTE TO LIGHT AND THE SEA

The collection “A Tribute to Light and the Sea”, a special series curated at Aethos Mallorca by artist Luis West, is more than just a display of artworks. It’s a celebration of light, color, and emotion an artistic journey that goes beyond traditional exhibition. This project was born not only to create and showcase striking art pieces, but also to provide a platform for Luis to express his vision through his unique language of color and material.

COLLECTION

Luis West, a Berlin-based artist we discovered during our talent scouting, immediately stood out. He doesn’t shy away from bold colors. In fact, he embraces them fully, especially through the use of translucent materials like acrylic. His work is a vibrant fusion of art, gradients, and light. These are pieces that not only captivate visually but invite engagement and activation.

Aethos Mallorca, part of a hotel group we’ve worked with in Portugal and Italy, approached Dare Collective with a request: to curate a unique artistic experience for their space and guests. Leveraging our expertise in artist placement, art curation, and exhibition and event production, we created a collection specifically tailored to the spirit of the sea and light. It reflects Mallorca’s essence and was also designed to adapt seamlessly to other Aethos properties, such as their location in Ericeira, Portugal.

The narrative behind the works created by Luis for this project beautifully captures this intention:

A TRIBUTE TO LIGHT

“Translucent art lives in dialogue with light. Whether natural or artificial, each source of light alters the color, the reflections, and the overall experience. Plexiglass bends and scatters light, creating evolving shadows and tones”

– Luis West

And so, this dream collaboration took shape.

But we didn’t stop there. At Dare Collective, what drives us is not just discovering and admiring emerging artists, but daring with them. We help them showcase their talent in unconventional and bold ways. So, after placing the artist, curating the works, and managing the production and logistics, we moved into the next phase: crafting an experience that brought together art, hospitality, gastronomy, cocktails, and people.

Because for us, it’s not just about installing the collection. It’s about celebrating it, giving it life, and creating something memorable that introduces the artist while enhancing the ambiance and storytelling of the space.

Together with Aethos Mallorca, we brought this to life through an opening event that was paired with one of the Listening Sessions hosted by Aethos Mallorca. The event took place at LÀLIA, a social club in Mallorca, where two DJs from Munich Different Times curated a music set that perfectly matched the energy of the evening. The night began with soft summer vibes—slow, chill beats that set the tone for the arrival of guests. People flowed through the space, connected with the art, and had the opportunity to meet Luis himself, who joined us for the event.

As the night progressed, the music and art merged. The beat synced with the glow of Luis’s lightboxes, and the experience was elevated by a curated selection of cocktails, food, and hospitality. This created the perfect combination for guests to connect with the art, using it as a point of entry into a broader sensory experience. We witnessed firsthand how the works enhanced the atmosphere. As night fell, LÀLIA was transformed, taking on a completely new look and feel that captured the essence of the collection.

After this one-night-only event, the artworks were moved to Aethos Mallorca, where they were placed throughout the space. We once again saw the magic of art in action. Luis’s vibrant and colorful works added depth and character to an interior defined by soft, neutral tones and raw materials. They introduced a bold and refreshing contrast that elevated the space without overpowering it. This striking balance was exactly what Aethos was hoping for.

Importantly, this collection is not fixed. It was designed to be mobile and will soon travel to new destinations. In the near future, you’ll be able to discover the works from this collection at Aethos Lisbon. We love how versatile it is the essence of summer lives within each piece, making the collection as adaptable as it is beautiful.

The pieces created for Aethos, in collaboration with Luis West, are now available in our online shop. You can see how they appear in real-world spaces and, if you’d like, bring a piece of summer into your home. For a limited time, we’re offering 15% off with the code LUISXRAIG.

We invite you to dare with us. Support artists and join us on this creative journey.
