LIGHT STUDIES

The SLS Art Chapters Presents “Light Studies” — A Dialogue Between Luis West and Camila Fernández Inspired by Halcyon Spa

In a city where hospitality increasingly intersects with culture, SLS Barcelona introduces a new chapter in experiential art programming through The SLS Art Chapters, a curatorial initiative developed in collaboration with Dare Collective. Launching with the exhibition Light Studies, the project brings together two distinct artistic voices — Luis West and Camila Fernández — in an immersive installation inspired by the sensory universe of Halcyon Spa.

Luis West is known for his translucent resin sculptures that blur the boundaries between object, light, and atmosphere. His work explores perception through color, transparency, and reflection, often creating pieces that appear to shift depending on the viewer’s position and the surrounding environment.

Working primarily with resin, West creates sculptural forms that feel simultaneously solid and ephemeral. Light passes through his works, activating layers of color and producing subtle optical transformations that change throughout the day. This dynamic relationship between material and illumination makes his practice particularly resonant within the context of Light Studies.

Memory, Landscape, and Material Language

Camila Fernández approaches art through a deeply material and spatial sensibility shaped by her background in architecture. Her practice often explores themes of landscape, memory, identity, and emotional geography, translating intangible experiences into tactile visual forms.

Through layered textures, structural compositions, and subtle tonal variations, Fernández creates works that evoke fragments of environments, atmospheres, and personal histories. Her pieces carry a quiet, contemplative quality that contrasts yet harmonizes with the luminous intensity of Luis West’s sculptures.

Within Light Studies, Fernández introduces grounding and rhythm to the exhibition. Her work anchors the sensory experience through material presence and architectural sensitivity, allowing visitors to engage with the exhibition on both emotional and spatial levels.

With The SLS Art Chapters, SLS Barcelona positions itself not only as a luxury hospitality destination, but also as an active cultural platform within Barcelona’s contemporary creative scene.

The collaboration with Dare Collective reflects a growing movement where hotels become spaces for artistic exchange, community, and cultural discovery. Rather than separating art from daily experience, the project integrates it into moments of travel, wellness, dining, and social interaction.

Guests are invited not only to observe the artworks, but to live alongside them — experiencing how art can transform atmosphere, emotion, and perception in real time.

All artworks featured in Light Studies are available for acquisition through Dare Collective, including bespoke commissions adapted to private collectors and spaces. Hotel guests also receive special access conditions and personalized support for artwork purchases and international shipping.
